Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe Exports In 2023, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of stainless steel seamless pipe for oil and gas, when their volume decreased by -16.7% to 15K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 18K tons in 2022, and then contracted sharply in the following year. In value terms, stainless steel seamless pipe exports declined notably to $65M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 97% against the previous year.
Exports by Country Vietnam (2.2K tons), the Philippines (1.6K tons) and Turkey (1.3K tons) were the main destinations of stainless steel seamless pipe exports from China, together comprising 34% of total exports. From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +136.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. In value terms, the largest markets for stainless steel seamless pipe exported from China were Saudi Arabia ($8.9M), Vietnam ($6.6M) and the United States ($4.9M), with a combined 31% share of total exports. the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the Philippines, South Korea, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, India and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%. the Philippines, with a CAGR of +124.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth. Export Prices by Country In 2023, the stainless steel seamless pipe price amounted to $4,310 per ton (FOB, China), with a decrease of -24.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $5,725 per ton in 2022, and then shrank markedly in the following year. There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($10,501 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($2,429 per ton) was amongst the lowest. From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
